Sight Words.
It’s one of the most important set of words that we as teachers are constantly exposing our students to. These words… some are easy, some are tricky, some words students will struggle with every.single.day, and some students master them with ease. BUT… our students MUST be exposed to sight words daily if we want to build and create successful readers.
Did you know that 89% of what we read (whether in a magazine, book, newspaper, recipe, etc…) are sight words?! Tell me these words aren’t important to learn!
Now our district uses the Fry’s word list as an overall basis of what we should be teaching to our students, however sight words from other lists are thrown in as well if we see a need or importance for them in our grade level.
Don’t use the Fry’s list? Over 70% of sight words are found on all sight word lists… so most of the words will overlap! No worries 🙂
This past year I wanted to create a routine of sight words that my students would be exposed to throughout the day. Fun with Fry’s was birthed into four sections, a growing bundle. I broke down the first 100 Fry words into groups of 25 and added each pack as it was completed.
You want GREAT news?! The bundle is OFFICIALLY COMPLETE!!!! (can I get an AMEN?!)
