Guided Reading in October ~ Kindergarten Style!

Happy Hump Day friends!

With today being the LAST day of September {holy smokes ~ where is this year going?!}, I figured it would be a good day to show you all about my newest pack for October!

Can I just say that I am absolutely *loving* kindergarten?!  I’m sure I have already said it multiple times… but I really do!  I never thought I could truly find myself enjoying this different world (because yes…. Kinderland is definitely in it’s own category!) but I am enjoying each and every day!

One of the big changes moving down to kinder is they are brand new little readers!  Like… brand SPANKEN new!  As in… I’m still working on writing my name, identifying more than half of the alphabet by identification, and learning the very basic of sight words!  Don’t get me wrong, there ARE some of my kinders that know all of their letters, came in writing their first AND last name, etc…  but the majority are brand new {which is why I think I love it!}

So…. our guided reading groups/small groups look a little different than the world up in first grade, but I knew I wanted a variety of activities for my kiddos!

Guided Reading for Kindergarten – October Edition is mainly packed with a variety of small group learning games and activities as well as 2 emergent readers that students can use!

I just wanted to show you tonight what the activities include in this FUN pack!

Feed the Pumpkin!
Students will be identifying the two letters on the pumpkin card.  IF the two letters match, as in the capital and lowercase are the same letter, then they “feed’ it to the pumpkin!  If the two letters are NOT a match, the pumpkin gets boiled!
Not-So-Scary Sounds!
This fun activity will have students identifying the picture with the “not-so-scary” skeleton and finding the letter that the picture begins with!  There is one picture for each letter!
Sight Word Memory
This traditional game of concentration can be played with these 15 basic and beginning sight words!
Emergent Readers {2}
Each of the fall-themed emergent readers include 6 pages each (only three are shown above) which are perfect to begin reading with!  
Build a Sight Word
This fall themed sight word building activity is perfect for students to work on the words they need practice with {or your words of the week!}. 
I also included a tree with leave letters to help build words as well!
Spin a Sight Word
This Halloween/fall themed spin-a-word works on the basic sight words as well as a blank spinner to write in your own words!
I have included recording sheets to trace and read the words as students spin a word.  I just placed mine a sleeve to re-use!
Match the Picture
For our beginning readers, an important strategy is looking at the pictures to help us read.  This activity includes sentence cards (for the teacher to read!) and the students will have to find the picture that matches the text!
Blazing Rhymes
Students will be matching rhyming pictures together!  
Letter Potions
Students will be matching the capital letter with the lowercase letter.

I also wanted to show you my super simple {and Not-so-Fancy} way I store these activities throughout the month!
I place each of the activities in a ziplock bag (fancy right?!)
I take a 9×12 manila envelope and just write what will be inside!  Again… fancy! 🙂
And put all of the bags inside!  Wa-La
I have a basket that I keep by my teacher table that holds this envelope as well as our sight word/alphabet cards and anything else we need for small groups!
