Apple Overload {with freebies!}

Goodbye summer….. hello fall.

While seeing summer in the past has me a little sad, I must say that I absolutely LOVE fall! {like really love. a whole lot}

This week has been no different, and even though it’s only the first day of fall, this entire week has been prepping me for my favorite season of all!

If you haven’t guessed or noticed from my abundance of pictures via social media…. it’s the famous “Apple Week” in school this week! It’s the best smelling week of the year!

I just wanted to pop in real quick tonight to show you a few of the apple activities that we have been doing, but my favorite will happen tomorrow. That’s right… we are making applesauce. The smell…. ahhhhhh…. I can smell it now.

Last week I made some large apples to use as anchor charts this week for whatever I could think of! Wipe on/Wipe off…. over and over!

We ask that each student bring in an apple {their choice!} on Monday and it is these apples that we use throughout the week to observe, taste, use as manipulatives, and even cook! These babies are definitely proud of their apples!

We discussed how we can sort our apples and did just that!

I used another apple to discuss a few story elements… nothing fancy, but again, dry erase markers allow this be re-usable!

In Math, we have been working with the number five for the last two weeks. Anything to do with FIVE… we’ve done it! Compose, decompose, five frame, tally marks, adding, subtracting, building the number, etc…

Our favorite activity by far this week was our “Apple Toss” game. I made a quick apple with the numbers 0-5 mixed up and a large five frame…. students had to “toss” an apple {just a ball of red paper!} on the apple. The number they landed on was the number they built in the five frame… using REAL apples!

After working with our five frames for a while, we made these cute little apple/caterpillar five frames!

The past couple of weeks, we have also been studying nouns {focusing on one part of nouns each week} and this week we finished up with “things” and “animals”.

I re-used our red apple chart for nouns today and we came up with some great {and random!} nouns!

To stay in the apple spirit, we made these Noun trees and students had to follow a color code!

{person = yellow, place = red, and thing = green}

Today…. we turned into apple taste-testers!

We tried each apple one at a time….

Don’t judge…. I could only find a plastic knife {but it worked!}

We made our graph and decided which apple we liked the best! To my surprise, our class was pretty evenly divided, with red and yellow at {7} and green with {6}.

I had my students make a torn-paper apple craft and complete the sentence with their favorite apple color:
